Additional Optional Class Reunion Activity on Sat., Oct 17: a Fish-fry!

This weekend I was very pleased to hear from classmate Nicole Bristow-Lacy.  She told me about another opportunity for classmates to gather and enjoy each other's company during our upcoming Class of 1985 Reunion Weekend.

Here are the details:

In addition to the tail-gate prior to the Homecoming game on Friday, October 16 and the game itself and then the party at Hudson Brothers Deli with live music provided by classmate Philip Neal's band, we also have a fish-fry on Saturday before the official evening festivities.

Nicole wrote that "A few classmates will be hosting a fish-fry for all Class of '85, to continue celebrating 30 years ..."

Date: October 17, 2015
Time: 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Where: East Rockingham Park-Center, 135 Safie Sixth St. Rockingham NC, 28379

Although there is no charge; Nicole and her fellow hosts would greatly appreciate the support from everyone to help make this event the most memorable reunion ever.

More details about the fish-fry will be available at the game Friday night.

If you have any questions or concerns about the fish-fry, then please feel free to contact the following: Sandy Jones, Casey Goodwin, Nicole Bristow-Lacy or Tabatha Maultsby-Tate.

So, I'm sure there will be other opportunities for groups small and large to gather as we celebrate 30 years.  If so, and you'd like them posted and shared far and wide then let me know and I'll get the word out.

Meanwhile, don't forget about all the other activities we have planned and also don't forget that the cost goes up $5 if you haven't RSVP'd by mail, in-person or online by October 1stGo to this link HERE for details on all of this!

Have We Heard From You? It's Not Too Late, But Just In Time!

Dear Fellow Members of the Richmond Raiders Class of 1985:

Have we heard from you?

Are you planning to attend our 30th High School Reunion next month?

If you haven’t yet responded to emails, letters, ads, public announcements and word-of-mouth requests we've been sending for much of the last year, or if for some reason you haven’t heard about our class reunion until now, then it is NOT TOO LATE ... there is still time to register!

As I hope you know, during Richmond Raider Homecoming Weekend of October 16-17, 2015 we will celebrate 30 Years since our high school graduation.  Here are the specific costs and plans:

Now

Order a Class of 1985 reunion t-shirt by contacting Tommy Harrington ASAP.  You may reach him at 910-206-2550 or via Facebook.  Though not required, we encourage classmates to wear it to the Homecoming Football Game.  He’s only obtaining t-shirts for those who pre-order them.

Before October 1st (preferably NOW)

If you haven’t already done so, please notify us if you will attend the reunion.  $45 per classmate, $30 for a guest.  (The amount is less than our 2010 reunion and about the same cost as our 2000 and 2005 reunions.)  If after October 1st you haven’t made either a partial payment or a full payment, then the cost changes to $50 per classmate, $30 for a guest.  Please either mail your check or money order payable to "RSHS Class of 1985 Reunion" to Misty Britton, 159 Beane Run, Rockingham NC  28379 or go online to http://richmondraiders1985.blogspot.com/  to pay with a credit card online.  If you have any questions, then email me at gwaynegoodwin@gmail.com.

Friday, October 16

7PM  Homecoming Football game, Richmond Raider Stadium – we will try to sit together as a class – watch for signs on where to sit.  The Class of 1985 will be recognized publicly during the game.  (Note:  before the game classmate Tommy Harrington, Curtis Ingram and others are planning to “tailgate” in the parking lot with hot dogs, etc.  More details to come.)

Approx 9PM - 1AM Hudson Brothers Deli Restaurant, Rockingham – Whether you attend the football game or not, we will gather for live music, hors d’oeuvres, dancing, and fellowship.  No formal program.  Adult beverages are at your own expense.  Very casual attire.

Saturday, October 17

6PM – 1AM  Rockingham Moose Lodge – Great food, live DJ with favorite music from the 1980s through the present, dancing, games & door prizes, photographs, & a program similar to our past reunions.  Lots of fun!  Lots of opportunity to catch up with long-time friends!  We will provide opportunities for photo sharing after the reunion.  As for the attire, we encourage classmates and guests to dress in a nice, appropriate way – no shorts, no cut-offs – but what you’d wear out to a party. (Note:  Instead of our usual casual Saturday cookout during the day prior to the evening event, this year we suggest folks and their kids, etc., visit the new Discovery Place in downtown Rockingham (more details to follow) or plan your own smaller gatherings before meeting up later that night at the Moose Lodge.)

If you’ve already paid some portion of the registration, then you must pay the balance at the reunion as you enter the Moose Lodge.
If, however, you have *not* RSVP’d by October 1st and have *not* paid anything by October 17th, then at that point the cost is $50 per classmate, $30 per guest.

To keep updated on the class reunion as it approaches, go to this website:  … We may be posting ideas, suggestions, and a potential block of rooms at one of Richmond County’s hotels/motels.

Get on board -- RSVP now by clicking on this link -- or mail in your check NOW ... and spread the word ... The Class of 1985 is ready to celebrate!

First Deadline Extended to August 31st! Save $$, RSVP Today.

Dear Fellow Members of the Richmond Raiders Class of 1985:

This is the third of many reminders this year that I'm going to send you and other classmates about our upcoming 30-year class reunion.

My first reminder request in this message:  RSVP immediately your intentions about the October 16-17, 2015 reunion.  If you haven't already RSVP'd, then please do so by clicking on this link here and making your first payment (even if only $10) TODAY!

After August 31st (the original notice said August 1st) the registration fee will rise by at least $5, so please indicate you plan to attend our big reunion weekend before then if possible -- even if only a partial payment of $10 or $25.

(If you have already RSVP'd, then thank you!)

The 2nd request I have of you is to please share this email message with those classmates you've kept in touch with over the years AND to continue posting social media links (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) about our reunion so we reach as many folks as possible.  Be sure to include info on how folks can register.

By the way, more than one-third of our graduating class is receiving this same email today and another third is receiving it via Facebook or U.S. mail.  That's 2/3 of a class of 510+ graduates.  Wouldn't it be great if we had our largest reunion ever?  (Our record turnout occurred in both the 2010 and 2005 reunions where we had in excess of 125 classmates.  Other classes and I were impressed with those results.  Combined with spouses and guests, we had in excess of 200 people at each of those two reunions.)  Let's try to equal or surpass that number in 2015.

To keep updated on the class reunion as it approaches, go to this website:  http://richmondraiders1985.blogspot.com/

Get on board -- RSVP now by clicking on this link -- and spread the word ... The Class of 1985 is ready to celebrate!

P.P.S.  If you're a member of the Reunion Planning Committee, watch for an email providing details of our next conference call. The plan is for Sunday at 7:30pm, same number as before. If you don't receive the email with details by Friday morning, then email me or call 910-997-1301 to get the passcode.

Reunion Committee Creates Online RSVP and Registration Page

Though we may have a few more changes to make to it, the Class of 1985 Reunion Planning Committee has created an easy, online method to RSVP and register for our 30-Year Reunion this year.

All you need do is click on this link here and register accordingly.

Here are our plans thus far:

Friday, October 16
Those classmates who want to attend the Richmond Raider football game are encouraged to sit together.  We plan for the class to be recognized during halftime.  We are very pleased that our reunion weekend celebration also occurs during Richmond Raider Homecoming.  (More details to come, including what role our class may have during the parade earlier in the day.)

Whether one attends the game, stays through halftime or remains through the Raider game's end, we will meet upstairs at the Hudson Brothers Deli in uptown Rockingham to enjoy an 80s music band, hors d'oeuvres, etc. Approximately 7pm until midnight.  Casual dress.

Saturday, October 17
That evening we go "back to the future" by returning to the site of our very first reunion in 1990:  The Rockingham Moose Lodge.  We'll have heavy hors d'oeuvres, a live DJ, potentially a surprise live band, a photographer, dancing, a program, door prizes, recognitions, etc., and lots of fun catching up with the very best class to ever graduate from Richmond Senior High School. :)  Tentatively the start time is 6:30pm and the end time is 1am.  Dressy casual recommended.

We will have additional news to report in the coming weeks and months.

Meanwhile, though, please go ahead and RSVP now by clicking on this link and registering TODAY!  Or, you may mail your payment in by check to Richmond Raider Class of 1985, P.O. Box 27841, Raleigh NC 27611.

Go Raiders!

Sunday, February 8, 2015

Reunion Weekend is also Raider Homecoming Weekend!

We have learned what we hoped was the case:

Our 30-Year Reunion Weekend of October 16-17, 2015 is also Richmond Raider Football Homecoming Weekend.  It appears that the Raiders will be playing Purnell Swett of Robeson County on the Friday evening.  That not only means we will be able to have recognition for our class during the game but it opens up the possibility of having a presence during the presumed Homecoming Parade earlier that day, October 16.

Tonight we have a conference call of our reunion committee planners. Very soon we will finalize the cost per person for the reunion.  I promise you this: It will be noticeably less expensive than our 2010 reunion.

Please sign on to either our Class Reunion facebook page or our blog to stay informed on reunion plans.

Class of '85 Reunion Plans Announced -- Oct 16-17

Go ahead and mark your calendars for our 30-Year Reunion!

After several months of work by our Reunion Planning Committee, I'm pleased to announce that we now have most of the plans set.

Friday, October 16
Those classmates who want to attend the Richmond Raider football game are encouraged to sit together.  We will be recognized during halftime.  At this time we do not know if it is Homecoming yet.  More details to come.

We'll have heavy hors d'oeuvres, a live DJ, a photographer, dancing, a program, door prizes, recognitions, etc., and lots of fun catching up with the very best class to ever graduate from Richmond Senior High School. :)  Tentatively the start time is 6:30pm and the end time is 1am.  Dressy casual recommended.

Cost:  This will be finalized very soon, but we're aiming for $30-$35 per person, which is less than half of what the cost was at our 25-year reunion in 2010 and about the same as what the cost was in 1990 or 1995.  The exact amount will be determined during the Reunion Planning Committee's next call on February 8th.  By February 8th we will also have the online payment system up and running, and provide a mailing address for those who want to mail in their early RSVPs.  Classmates who delay in RSVPing (after July 1) or wait until the last minute to RSVP (after October 1) will face a slightly higher charge on account of caterer and other related costs.

Meanwhile, please mark your calendars, spread the word, get us email addresses and mailing addresses of classmates whom we haven't heard from in awhile or who may have moved since the last reunion, etc.

Watch this site and our Facebook page for further details in the weeks ahead.

30-Year Class of 1985 Reunion Planning Call Tonight!

Whether you've been on the Richmond Senior High Class of 1985 Reunion Planning Committee in the past or not, so long as you're a member of the graduating class you are invited to join in on a conference call on Sunday, January 11th, at 7:30pm.  That's TONIGHT! This will be the first call of the new year.

Here are the instructions for the conference call: Call (712) 775-7035 and then when it asks for your Participant Access Code number, type in 100118 and then type the pound sign (#).  If anyone has any problems logging in, then email Class President Wayne Goodwin at gwaynegoodwin@gmail.com or call cell phone (910) 997-1301.

On the call we will receive updates from classmates about the planned reunion weekend, events, discuss particulars like estimated costs per classmate (and guest), and other details.  We will also discuss ideas from committee members and take next steps in the planning process.  The call will last no more than one hour, with a goal of concluding within 45 minutes.

Just think:  We're approximately nine (9) months away from our 30th-Year Class Reunion!
